When I first used the name Make Love Not Landfill in 2005, it was not just a catchy phrase. It was a literal boundary line for my creative practice. In the clay world, it is dangerously easy to hide behind vague terms like “consciously made.”

Engineered specifically for energy conservation, its dual-layer insulation features an advanced microporous board that drastically reduces heat loss. When it comes to decorating our whimsical sustainable ceramics and custom palettes, we strictly avoid unstable raw chemical mixing. We are not experimenting with your health. Instead, we use heavily tested commercial glazes from industry leaders. This includes Amaco, Mayco, and Scarva Earthstone. These formulas carry the global ACMI AP Approved Product certification. Toxicologists thoroughly verify them to be 100% lead-free, cadmium-free, and safe for creators of all ages. 
 
For our functional vessels, we enforce strict safety standards:
    • Single Interior Glaze Rule: We isolate the interior of our functional wares by using only a single, high-durability Scarva Dinnerware Safe liner glaze.
    • Zero Bacteria Trapping: By avoiding complex glaze layering or heavy surface textures on contact points, we ensure a smooth, glassy, and completely chemically inert surface. It will never leach minerals or trap microscopic food particles.

When a piece requires a handle, a base, or an accent, we refuse to source new plastic or industrially harvested wood. Instead, we hunt for existing treasures. I have been called a “Womble” more than a few times by people watching me work. Just like those furry creatures living on Wimbledon Common, our studio motto is “making good use of the things that we find.”
 
So, I have a terrible habit of spotting an abandoned vintage wardrobe on the kerb. I immediately look at the intricate brass handles, the weathered timber panels, and the decorative moulding. Then, I think, “That would make a great pop-up gallery display!” I am constantly sorting through broken trinkets. I take old jewellery apart to salvage beautiful beads, wires, and clasps. Ultimately, I look at everyday household objects to totally reimagine their uses within my work.
 
Indeed, I once spent twenty minutes wrestling a beautifully twisted bundle of aged ivy roots out of a thick bramble patch. I was completely convinced they were destined to become the structural base for a fairytale mushroom house. Pedalling home with a massive root system strapped to my back probably looked ridiculous, but the resulting sculpture was spectacular.
 
This quirky, hands-on gathering is backed by a serious commitment to circularity. Over the years, we have actively participated in local recycling initiatives. We have run community clothes swaps for Sustainable Fashion Week. We cleared plastic pollution with Trash Free Trails, and joined forces with Keep Wales Tidy to protect our landscapes. 
 
When we integrate these found elements into our sustainable ceramics, we transform them safely:
    • We salvage historical components like vintage wardrobe parts and decorative mouldings for our pop-up gallery displays.
    • We disassemble vintage jewellery and select household hardware to add unique, tactile metallic accents to our pottery collections.
    • We gently harvest, clean, and dry reclaimed ivy roots, driftwood, and fallen timber.
    • We transform and bind these elements together using pure imagination and whimsy.
    • Ultimately, we ensure the organic accents can eventually return to the earth safely, while keeping valuable materials out of the landfill.
